Some good books...

Okay...been doing some reading lately! Isn't reading grand!!! I really just love it! Here are some books that have taken my brain away...

The $64 Tomato...if you love gardening...this one is for you! Laugh out loud funny!!!

Alexander writes the engaging tale of one man's pursuit of the perfect kitchen garden, from its original construction, fraught with delays and construction troubles, to his cost-benefit analysis that reveals each tomato he raised set him back $64. Along the way, we see him battle weeds, try to outsmart local wildlife, and solve the mystery of why his corn is falling over. We also watch him, a man who wants to grow organic produce, come to the sobering realization that he must use pesticides if he wants to harvest any apples at all. Canning produce goes from being a novelty to a chore, and his meadow doesn't turn out quite as he envisioned it. Whether sharing the story of his and his wife's garden statue debate or of the herniated disk that will change his gardening life forever, Alexander reveals himself to be a passionate gardener. This enjoyable book, laced with humor and Alexander's garden philosophy, is highly recommended...

Ina May's Guide to Childbirth...obviously...for preggers! But a great read...very inspiring!
Using history as her guide, nationally recognized midwife Gaskin explores what she hopes will be a renaissance in natural childbirth, something that she's been advocating since the mid-1970s. By focusing on how women of ancient civilizations and other modern peoples give birth, Gaskin puts our own hypersensitivities in perspective, uncovering a beautiful, sometimes orgasmic experience rather than a dreadful, painful one. Sure, pain is part of childbirth, but preparing for the pain in a realistic rather than sentimental way--whether giving birth at home or in a hospital--can be the key to a woman's ability to deal with it naturally. Within the pages of personal anecdotes, some touching, some startling, from Gaskin's patients and colleagues, every woman is sure to find something to relate to, whether or not she chooses to have a medicine-free labor.
